Okay, so I'm already having a rough time with depression and beating myself up all the time. I normally love to read Newsweek. Its a great magazine. It lets me keep up with the really big stuff without having to read the front page of the Merc. But this week's issue just seemed to suck. First there's the comment that children who have mothers who suffer depression have more than their fair share of deliquency and psychotic episodes due to "receiving poor parenting." [Emphasis mine] Great. Just what I wanted to hear. My biggest fears are accurate. I am being a rotten mother.

A couple of articles later we see the comment that low energy children come from low energy parents. And that they learn that being sedentary is normal and then suffer higher rates of obestity, early onset type II diabetes, high blood pressure, and etc. Okay, so now not only am I a poor parent 'cause I suffer from depression, but the side effects of said depression (and a really tiring pregnancy) is going to make the quality of Ike life just horrible.

You know, when the depression is at its worst, in my darkest moments, I can very nearly understand Andrea Yates.

And you know, that scares the living shit outta me.

Hon, you'd be a rotten parent if you looked at these statistics and were either in denial or saw yourself and your child and didn't give a rat's ass. You are aware of it, and you want to make it better.I don't think you give yourself quite enough credit.

Hang in there and it'll be just fine. Also, don't be afraid to call on your community for support. When you just can't move because the pregnancy is dragging you down, you can call on one of us to take Ike to the playground, etc.

It truly takes a village to raise a child, and especially multiple children! We are here to pitch in and help. You need only ask.
