My goodness, what an interesting problem! I assume if I purchased and ate a meal within those two weeks that the money (now owned by the restaurant) would not disappear? Same thing with airplane tickets I used within the two weeks. The airline would still have the money? Otherwise I would be stealing anything I bought.
Interesting thought. I think the assumption is sorta like Brewsters Millions. You can't use the money to buy tangible goods, but services and consumables are just fine!
