My mom believed strongly that every person, male or female, should know how to sew at least a little.

Boys and girls both need to know how to mend a garment and sew a button on.

Plus, my brother ended up opting for sewing class so he could "hand out with the chicks," while I ended up taking woodworking because I just wanted to make things. :)
