Realizations at the beach

I realized 2 things yesterday.

1. I don't know how to have fun with my kids. I know how to love them, change them, clean them, discipline them, but I don't know how to have fun. I must work on this.

2. I need to stop letting the end of the trip (when everyone is tired, cranky, hungry, thirsty,  and pissed off) entirely color the excursion itself. Just because the leaving was bad doesn't mean that the entire trip was a horrible.

Re 1: Yeah, I am realizing lately that I don't know how to have fun period. (All the good hobbies are gone.) Let me know if you figure something out, and I'll do the same.

1. Not being a parent myself, I'd only be guessing but I'm thinking that when the kids don't need quite so much changing, cleaning, and disciplining that the fun will come naturally, from what I know of your personality :-)

2. It's understandable how the end of the trip would stick out most in your mind. Still, it's great that you're looking to work on that one, for your own sanity if nothing else. And maybe in assisting 1. above.

Hugs to you!

Yes! These are both important and challenging. Especially the fun.

I keep reading all these parenting magazines and I read the articles and go "Yea! That sounds like fun." But who in the hell has the energy to do that? I just struggle to keep that hazmat crew out of my house and keep the clothes clean, much less play with my kids. I swear some women are either gifted with lots of energy, or they are supplementing with Crystal. I don't know which, but I sure wish I had lots of energy!

Those articles are wriiten by Stepford Moms. The mess will always be there. Some days it's good to ignore the laundry and play in the baby pool instead

I just don't clean.

But maybe that's not so good either...
