I had a great deal of trouble with maternity clothes, too... I gained a lot of weight with Rick (85 lbs, total) and about 30 lbs of it in the first trimester. It was very frustrating because - as you say - plus sized maternity clothing is not always easy to find. I have a pair of black slacks with a tummy panel and drawstring in 2X - I wore them to work at least twice a week for a while, and they were loose even at the end. If you like, I could dig them out and mail them...
I was very happy late in the pregnancy to find that my husband's jeans (soft and well-worn and no spandex anywhere) fit. I was in heaven!
