1. Grab the nearest book.
2. Open the book to page 23.
3. Find the fifth sentence.
4. Post the text of the next three sentences in your journal along with these instructions.
5. Don't dig for your favorite book, the cool book, or the intellectual one: pick the CLOSEST.

Here's what I got.

"I always hated fucking gin rummy." "Me, too."It was one thing we had in common, at least.

Transcendent by Stephen Baxter.

I've seen this meme before, but I thought it might be interesting to see what I could come up with since I'm at work. The reference desk at this branch has a display area built in. So I reached around and grabbed the first book I found.
I've never read this book and I'm amused by what I found.

aelfie: (Stitching)
For the last two weeks I've been working on Judy Odell's Simple Elegance. Its the recommended fibers (DMC floss) and stitched over 1 on 28 ct linen. (Not sure who's linen, as it was just in my stash)

Now for those who don't know, over 1 refers to the number of threads I'm stitching over. Normally I stitch over 2, so on 28 count linen I'd have 14 stitches per inch. Stitching over 1, there's 28 stitches per inch and is 1/4 the size of stitching over 2. This piece has been a UFO since Ike was born. Until recently I hated stitching over 1 (this was my first attempt). A couple of months ago. someone pointed me to Ruth Sparrow's website for instructions on her technique for stitching over one (This information is no longer free on the Net, I think she's designed a class around it now), and oh my goodness. How wonderful it is! I think I could get hooked on over 1 stitching.
