5. A Tale of three trees by Angela Hunt
A picture book story of three trees who had big dreams when they were small, who grew up to be disappointed, and then redeemed as important parts of Jesus' life. The manger, the boat, and the cross. Interesting book/story, I was looking for good Easter books and this one came up in my search at SJPL. I'm not sure I'll use it or not.

"Most of us meditate on things totally useless to the Spiritual life. Those who say they "can't" often meditate the most. Their minds get stuck on one thing and they mull it over and over. They are meditating a lot-on the wrong things! Don't tell me you don't know how to meditate. When you get angry with someone you can meditate on that for at least a half a day, can't you? When you're upset it can consume you for the other half of the day. We review our lives like scenes in a play. You remember what one said and what the other one said and then you add more to it. You not only meditate, but you use your imagination. We all go through a series of thoughts and imaginings. The essence of the interior life is to control that and focus on God. We're all massive meditators. We just need to keep focused on God and learn what to meditate on."

-Mother Angelica from Mother Angelica's Private and Pithy Lessons from the Scripture

I found this book at the library and it caught my eye...so far its a very interesting read...I've got to find some of her videos.
aelfie: (She who cooks)
Randy (allanh's husband) gave me permission to post this. Its his altered recipe from some cookbook. These are AWESOME. Easily doubles or triples. I keep losing the piece of paper the recipe is copied and scribbled on, so I'm posting it here.

4 slices of bacon diced
2 teaspoons Dijon style mustard
3/4 Cup brown sugar (6 ounces)
1/3 Cup BBQ sauce
1/3 Cup ketchup
1/2 onion chopped
1 teaspoon molassas
1 Tablespoon chili powder
1/8 teaspoon cayenne pepper or to taste
1/2 teaspoon liquid smoke
1 Cup chopped beef brisket or carnitas (I've done both. Excellent either way. Buy your carnitas from Costco.)
3 15 ounce cans baked beans

In a big stock pot saute bacon until bits are crisp and well browned, remove and drain on paper towels. Remove all but 2 Tablespoons of drippings. Cook onion in bacon drippings. Throw everything else in and heat through. Serve

Or
Put everything in an oven proof pan and bake at 325 for an hour.

I've never done the oven thing, but putting everything in the crockpot and letting it sit works well too. Awesome with cornbread.
