So yesterday, I took him to school. I kissed him goodbye and then he caught sight of his teacher and ran over to her. I started to walk off. I hear "Miss Sue. Look!" I turn and see him grab the edges of his shorts and drops trou, he stands up quickly and continues "New Underwear!" in a very proud voice.

All we could do is burst out laughing.

I love his teacher, her response through the laughter "Those are cool underpants Ike, better keep 'em clean. Now pull up your shorts and we'll go inside"

He is such a character.

That's really a perfect response. :)

(I taught preschool for 25 years before I quit to go back to school last December :) )

She is just amazing. I'm so happy he's having such a good first school experience. I'm sad that my girls probably won't have that same experience.

I'm trying to pick her brain right now to figure out how to keep that kid potty trained at home. He's fine when we are out and about. But once we get home. Forget it. Its really starting to piss me off. (Which I know is the wrong response, but I know he knows how to do it, he's just refusing to do so. I'm just getting sick and tired of cleaning up his dirty fanny.)

I forgot to ask. What are you going back to school for? (I see you've been studying algebra. Go girl!)

I'm getting a bachelor's degree in geography. (I have an AA in Early Childhood Ed already, and was nearly to a BA in child development when I left school.) I can't work full time without my chronic illness flaring, I just don't have enough oomph for that, so we're hoping that this allows me to work flexibly as a curriculum designer, grant application writer, environmental advocate, freelance writer, and if I get a master's, as a part-time community college teacher, taking work as I'm healthy and able.

That sounds interesting. I hear ya on the screwed up hands. I got carpal tunnel in both and had surgery 10 years ago. I went back and got my MLIS so I'd have a decent chance of having a part-time job for good pay.

Its actually worked out quite well. =)
